Autumn 2026

Three wines. Three sites.

Each wine in this release explores a single vineyard or individual block: WeatherEye Block Twelve Viognier, Phinny Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, and River Rock Block Six Syrah. There is more depth and richness this fall, but the thread running through all three is grace, detail and composure.

A Note from Marc

Somehow we’ve arrived at the back end of summer again. I hope it’s been a good one for you and your families.

As autumn approaches, I sit here thinking about how best to convey what makes these wines matter. A great wine can be enjoyed around the table with friends without demanding quiet reverence, yet still have something special to offer in a quiet moment. That is what I’m chasing in these wines.

A number of you told me how much you loved the brightness and elegance of the Cabernet Franc and Merlot this spring. Some of you also hinted that, come fall, you were hoping for a little more richness and depth.

And that is exactly what you’ll find in these new wines.

The 2022 WeatherEye Viognier comes entirely from Block Twelve, a tiny, steep parcel high on WeatherEye’s north face, planted in the traditional échalas style. We share this block with just one other winery, and as far as I know Dillon is the only producer bottling Block Twelve on its own. The fruit carries an unusual natural concentration, giving a wine of real flesh and depth, held in balance by salinity, mineral tension and restraint. We made just 54 cases.

Hibernāle has the depth and richness of Cabernet, but also freshness, aromatic lift and tender tannins. What I love most is its transparency. You can feel where, when and how it was grown in the aromatic detail, mineral line and persistence. Power without the muscle mass.

River Rock Block Six Syrah brings the darker, more savory side of the release. Blackberry and black plum sit at the core, with black olive, violet, iron and a flinty, crushed-rock character around the edges. With air, the fruit becomes broader and more expressive, carried through a long, saline finish.

There’s more depth and richness in this release, but the thread running through all three wines is grace, detail and composure.

I’ve also opened a very small piece of the library. Just 18 bottles of Autumnāle and 30 bottles of WeatherEye Syrah Version Three remain. They’ll be available to club members while they last.

The artwork accompanying the release comes from my oldest daughter, who asked last spring if she could make something for the club. We ran out of time then. She did not forget. Her younger sister is now quite certain that spring belongs to her.

I hope you enjoy these little pieces of family life finding their way into Dillon. This is still a very small winery, and your support genuinely matters. It gives me the freedom to keep working with tiny vineyard blocks, making small lots, and giving the wines the time and attention they need.

I’m grateful for that, and grateful you’re here.

The Autumn Release

The Wines

Three distinct sites, each speaking in its own way. The vineyard and block are the starting point; the cellar is there to let them remain visible.

2022 Dillon Cellars WeatherEye Viognier Block Twelve
54 cases produced

2022 WeatherEye Viognier

Block Twelve · WeatherEye Vineyard · Red Mountain

Flesh held in tension. White peach, ripe pear and a broad, tactile middle palate are carried by salinity, mineral definition and a fine citrus bitterness that emerges with air.

Very Limited · 54 Cases

Block Twelve is the smallest-production wine in this release. Additional bottles are available in limited quantities, with limits varying by membership tier and availability.

The Place

Block Twelve sits high on WeatherEye’s steep north face, where Viognier is trained one vine to a post in the traditional échalas style. The exposed slope and naturally low-yielding vines produce small, concentrated clusters with unusually little juice.

The resulting wine carries a natural density and depth that begin in the vineyard, not the cellar.

Picked Oct 7, 2022 New 500L Stockinger 24 months gross lees 54 cases
In the Cellar

Picked at first light on October 7 and meticulously field sorted, the fruit was foot crushed and left on its skins for three days at cellar temperature.

Native fermentation and native malolactic conversion unfolded in a single new 500L Stockinger puncheon. The wine then remained undisturbed on its gross lees for 24 months, with only minimal stirring during malolactic, before being bottled unfiltered in November 2024.

Pairings
  • Halibut with brown butter
  • Roast chicken with tarragon
  • Squash ravioli with sage
2022 Dillon Cellars Hibernale Cabernet Sauvignon
122 cases produced

2022 hibernāle

Cabernet Sauvignon · Phinny Hill Vineyard · Horse Heaven Hills

Quiet authority. Red and black fruit, violet and graphite unfold over fine-grained tannins, freshness and a taut mineral line. Its power comes through tension, proportion and length.

The Place

Phinny Hill sits in the Horse Heaven Hills, where long-established Cabernet Sauvignon vines combine aromatic lift with natural structure. The fruit carries depth without excess, with red-toned fruit, floral detail and a firm mineral line.

It is a site that favors proportion, persistence and the kind of quiet intensity that unfolds gradually in the glass.

Picked Oct 21, 2022 75% new French oak 24 months gross lees 122 cases
In the Cellar

Harvested on October 21, the fruit was destemmed and foot crushed. Native fermentation proceeded with gentle punchdowns throughout.

After 44 days on skins, the wine was pressed to tight-grain French oak, 75% new, where malolactic fermentation occurred naturally. It remained on its gross lees for 24 months before being bottled unfiltered in November 2024.

Pairings
  • Lamb chops with rosemary
  • Steak frites
  • Mushroom tart with Gruyère
2022 Dillon Cellars River Rock Syrah Block Six
72 cases produced

2022 River Rock Syrah

Block Six · River Rock Vineyard, now Le Mani · The Rocks District

Dark-fruited, savory and composed. Blackberry and black plum sit at the core, surrounded by black olive, violet, iron and crushed rock, with a long saline finish.

The Place

River Rock Vineyard, now Le Mani, was planted on its own roots in 2001 within the ancient alluvial fan of The Rocks District. Deep basalt cobbles absorb and radiate heat throughout the growing season.

Block Six gives a dark-fruited, savory expression of Syrah, with the saline, stony character associated with the district.

Picked Oct 18, 2022 100% whole cluster 30 months gross lees 72 cases
In the Cellar

Harvested by hand and lightly sorted in the vineyard, the fruit was placed into a single fermenter as 100% whole clusters.

Native fermentation proceeded slowly, and the wine remained on skins for 45 days before pressing. It was transferred to tight-grain French oak, 67% new, where native malolactic fermentation completed. The wine remained undisturbed on its gross lees for 30 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered in April 2025.

Pairings
  • Grilled pork chop with lentils
  • Lamb meatballs with yogurt
  • Charred eggplant with tahini
